* 2025 Year in Review *
2025 was a ripper of a year for us! Let’s jump right in and recap it. We started the year by heading into @earthtonestudiosStudios to record The Earthtone Sessions. This was us revisiting tunes from previous releases & giving them an update and refresh. Once again we called upon the skills of Pat Hills to run the controls and as always, nailed it. Thank you for doing what you do!
We jumped into live shows in April and played MOKSA Brewing up in Rocklin. This was a first for us, playing a brewery and it won’t be the last. It was a perfect way for us to kick the rust off and get our live set flowing. From here on we were playing shows every month through November.
This years Capital City Surf Clash @cafecolonial916 was killer and we had a giant of a band anchor it, Slacktone. Along with The Pyronauts and Surf Monster it was a reverb drenched night. It was another successful night bringing some amazing surf/instrumental bands to Sacramento. One week later we welcomed Daikaiju back to town and they stormed Harlow’s, unleashing their sound upon the crowd. At this point we were stoked to have had some killer shows, but it doesn’t stop there. We crossed paths with the Messer Chups and a few days later had the privilege of opening for Los Straitjackets! At this point we were satiated. Closing out our year was the F*ck Cancer series. This years was special as pro wrestling was brought in as part of the mix! What a spectacle it was and we are stoked to have been part of it.
The best part, we got to meet some new folks all through it. This is what makes playing live so enjoyable. Seeing folks come together for an in the moment experience that we all get to share. Yes we love playing music, but it’s the people!
Though we wrapped up live shows for the next few months, we are hard at work on the third Cthulhu (octopus) album! Songs are being worked over, artwork is coming along.
To all the bands, artists, promoters, venues, staff, and dare we say it again, fans, thank you. Thank you for allowing us to infect your ear holes with our brand of Sacramento reverb soaked tunes! Look out 2026! Reverb, set, grateful!

Recorded over winter 24/25 at Earthtone Studios with Pat Hills manning the controls, we put these down in live fashion with very little overdubs. We like to stay as true as we can to how they will sound when seeing us live! Why would we re-record these tunes? Well, since we have been playing these songs for the last number of years, they have taken on a new flavor, a different feel. So, we wanted to capture what they are now!
You can get our new release in digital format off Bandcamp, Spotify (waiting for it to load!), all streaming services and eventually on CD! Now give our latest record a listen. Reverb, set, new record! #themegustas #surf #instrumental #sacramento #newrecord

* 2024 Year in Review *
Another year under the belt for us and it was an amazing year. As we have done over the last few years we kicked off our live shows with a bday show at Cafe Colonial and ended playing our final show of the year and it was our first F*ck Cancer show at Old Ironsides.
Amongst playing shows we released our second vinyl record “It came from the Chum Bucket” in July. We cannot say thank you enough for buying this record, it’s always nerve wracking putting something new out into the world! Big thank you to Pat Hills for manning the controls, Matt Shrugg for the art skills, Thomas Hara, etc.
Playing shows locally and out of state gave us our busiest year to date. We were lucky enough to land a spot at the PNWs premier surf centric music fest, SurfxSurfwest in Seattle. This was a bucket list item and we were able to play our music amongst our peers and dare we say fans!? Huge thanks to Mel, Lukas, Tien, etc. for giving us the chance. We will definitely be making our way back in the future.
We’ve been trying for a few years and we were finally able to bring surf/instro heavy hitters Daikaiju to Sacramento after a long hiatus and was it a scorcher! Record temps, hot as hell in every way and a nearly sold out show was how we launched the first iteration of Capital City Surf Clash. This is the first of many to come and we are already working on the 2025 edition!
Also, October 2024 marked our 10 year anniversary! Somehow, through different members, moving cities, The Me Gustas keep plugging along and we are not ready to stop! We have some things up our sleeves and we are already working on our 2025 calendar of lives shows, etc. Thank you for coming along on the ride.
To all the bands, artists, promoters, venues, staff, and dare we say it again, fans, thank you. Thank you for allowing us to infect your ear holes with our brand of Sacramento reverb surf/instro tunes. There’s more to come, keep your eyes peeled!
